At this stage, the Thing will get new paint and begin the trim out. The custom floorboards have been fabricated and fitted prior to painting the interior. The custom door panels begin taking form. The first step is to fabricate the rough frames for the fiberglass, with the mounts for the LCD monitors incorporated in. Next these forms are sanded to smooth the surface.

July Update: Work on the custom enclosures and interior parts has been slowed due to injury. Jay, head of Car-Fi's Custom Installation division, was involved in a accident. No, not with something as harmless as a car or truck, Jay tangled with one of the most deadly things on wheels, a Go-Kart! He had his foot struck by a wild and dangerous 10 year old causing blunt force trauma with multiple stress fractures and bruises. Photos from the accident scene were just too gruesome (and embarrassing) to show the public. Jay is currently on the road to recuperating, but unfortunately work on the Thing has been delayed. For now, doctors have advised Jay to stay away from any of the kart tracks, or at least wear some body armor if he does go there. |
September Update: Work is still progressing. Jay was upgraded to a rolling support for his foot, so he's a little more mobile. Some of the build-outs are getting covered and being prepared to mount (see below). A lot of what's be going on recently is boring stuff we have to do to make the Thing pass inspection like installing seat belts and replacement wiper motor and horn. More pics will be posted as we proceed with the custom install part of this.
